"Circle at Sunrise"
FWA's First Tuesdays resume with guest speaker Shawn Cameron, fine art painter and sculptor.
Shawn began her professional art career over 30 years ago. She shares the heritage of the contemporary western rancher and cowboy which has been her family’s world for 150 years in Arizona and is now into the 6th generation. Resource material is gathered on the family’s ranch and becomes references for her canvas compositions and resulting oil paintings. She is extremely thankful for mentoring of several artists but credits Bill Owen, CAA, for his help with color and answering her unending questions. Extremely grateful for God’s gift, her goal is to continue growing and improving her skills.
Her art has been featured in many magazines and graced covers such as Western Horseman, Western Art Collector and American Cowboy. She has participated in several major museum art shows including “Prix de West” at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, in Oklahoma City, OK; the “Night of Artists” at the Briscoe Museum of Western Art, in San Antonio, TX; the “C.M. Russell Auction” at the C.M. Russell Museum, in Great Falls, MT; “Cowgirl Up! Art From the Other Side of the West” at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, AZ, and various shows at the Phippen Western Art Museum.
Among her honors are the “Steel Dust Award” in 2022 for Best of Show from the American Quarter Horse Museum’s “America’s Horse in Art”, Amarillo, TX. Others include the Cowgirl Up Show’s “Museum Purchase” in 2020 for her painting “Dusty Haze” at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, AZ, and in 2019 she was given the “Will Rogers Award for the Artist of the Year” by the Academy of Western Artists in Ft.
