In the early 2000s, he transitioned to a full-time career as a fine artist, moving from Chicago to Arizona, where he now focuses on oil paintings inspired by the colors and culture of the Southwest.
While his roots are in impressionistic realism, Salinas's current work is a form of abstracted realism. He often depicts Western subjects, Native American culture, and wildlife, as well as scenes from his travels.
